A1 — Lesson 116: Reading — short review (hotel / product)

Unidad 9: Descripciones, comparaciones y preferencias.

  • Title / name: Sunshine Hotel, Blue Café, Smart Headphones
  • Place: in the city centre, near the station, next to the park
  • Good things: clean, comfortable, friendly staff, good Wi-Fi
  • Bad things: noisy, small room, expensive, bad breakfast
  • Opinion final: I recommend it / I don’t recommend it
  • Rating: ★★★☆☆, ★★★★☆, etc.
Adjetivo Español Ejemplo
clean limpio The room is very clean.
comfortable cómodo The bed is comfortable.
noisy ruidoso The street is noisy at night.
cheap barato The hotel is cheap but clean.
expensive caro The restaurant is very expensive.
friendly amable The staff are very friendly.
clean and comfortable small but cheap very noisy friendly staff good Wi-Fi

En la Lesson 117 usarás estas palabras para comparar opciones (ej. one hotel is cheaper, another is more comfortable).

2️⃣ Reading A — Hotel review

Sunrise Hotel — ★★★★☆
I stayed at the Sunrise Hotel for two nights. The hotel is in the city centre, very close to the bus and train station. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff were friendly and the Wi-Fi was fast. Breakfast was good but not very big. At night the street was a little noisy because there are many bars. In general, the hotel is not cheap, but I think it is a good option for a short trip. I recommend this hotel.

1) Where is the Sunrise Hotel?

2) How was the room?

3) What was a problem at night?

4) What is the writer’s opinion?

3️⃣ Reading B — Product review

SmartSound Headphones — ★★★☆☆
I bought the SmartSound headphones last month. The sound is good for music and podcasts, and they are light and comfortable to wear. The battery is also good: about eight hours. However, the plastic feels a little cheap and the buttons are small. In a noisy street or on the bus, the sound is not very strong. The price is not high, so I think they are a good choice for students, but not for professional work.

1) How is the sound for music and podcasts?

2) What is a problem with the material?

3) How long is the battery?

4) For whom are these headphones a good choice?

1) noisy

2) cheap

3) comfortable

4) friendly staff

5) I recommend this hotel.

6) good choice

Hotel A is cheaper but noisier than Hotel B).
